Offset Carbon Emissions From Your Thailand Flight

When you book a Flight of the Gibbon Adventure Tour™ on our site we will plant an additional 5 trees per person as part of our Thailand Forest Restoration Project. Over their lifetime, those five trees will help offset the carbon emissions from your round trip flight to Thailand.

Trees breathe in Carbon Dioxide and breathe out Oxygen. Basically, the opposite of a jet engine. Burning fossil fuels, such as in an airplane, creates a significant amount of carbon dioxide, which is a major contributor to global warming. Carbon-offsetting programs can be used to reduce your “carbon footprint” on this earth.

Tree planting programs, especially in the tropics, can be especially effective at offsetting carbon emissions. We have already established a forest restoration program in order to make the Flight of the Gibbon Adventure Tour™ a zero-carbon footprint activity. We plant enough trees in our area to more than make up for our daily operations, including the transportation of guests to and from Chiang Mai. Now we want to offer you the chance to be able to offset the emissions from your flight to Thailand.

Our forest restoration program is much more than just planting trees to pull carbon out of the atmosphere. We have worked carefully with the local villages, the forest service and Chiang Mai University to ensure that we are properly restoring abused, over-logged forests into healthy, native rainforest ecosystems that will last lifetimes. Because we do the replanting in-house locally, we can do it for much less than online companies that charge 50 GB Pounds or more for a UK round-trip flight.

And don’t forget the monkeys! Our program also involves rehabilitating primate habitat, so you are not only offsetting your carbon emissions, you are also ensuring the future of healthy, wild primates in Thailand. Please read more about our Flight of the Gibbon Conservation Project™ and the Primate Habitat Restoration Project.

Our goal is to minimize the impact of our activities and our fellow travelers, not to make more work for ourselves and our customers. Instead of attempting to calculate the miles and carbon emissions for every traveler, we have simply rounded way up. Our calculations are based on a round trip flight from New York to Chiang Mai via Bangkok, which would produce about 3.5 metric tonnes of carbon dioxide(!) This is one of the longer flights to Thailand in the Northern Hemisphere. We understand that longer flights do exist, however, most of our customers fly 1/2 to 1/3 this distance. So if you took a longer flight to get here, be assured that others travelers will definitely make up for it. But don’t hesitate to tell us where you came from. We would love to know!

Offsetting your carbon emissions in our tree planting program is only available when you sign up for your tour on this site.

“Giving Back” – The Project

Our Goal is to plant 1,000,000 trees over the next 20 years. Initiated in 2008, we have planted 18,500 flourishing plants in the rainforest so far.

Our" Village Green" program supports local villages by keeping roads clean, preserving. Thai culture and rainforest tree planting. We also support a very successful wildlife re-population program involving many native species.

We are partnering with the Thai Government so we can do the ultimate good... preserving Thailand’s precious eco-system.

We educate everyone about the rain forest eco-system. More than 1000 children per year, (mostly orphans and underprivileged children) fly each year free of charge. Another 2000 children fly for a modest fee. Education and wildlife awareness are our major goals.
