F.A.Q.'s Frequently Asked Questions
What is it?
It's a ride up in the rainforest using a secure body harness suspended from a steel cable strung
within the treetop canopy.
How long does it take? It is a one day tour including: about three hours in the canopy on cables and bridges, one hour trekking along Mae Kompong waterfall, about one hour having time for lunch and visiting the village. Add 45minutes to one hour travel time each way.
How big is it?
Very big! The total length is about two kilometers and its probably the HIGHEST of it's kind in the world. There are 18 stations or treehouses.
What about kids?
The minimum age is 7ish but the main criteria is a minimum of 120cm - young children are often taken in tandem - either by a responsible adult or a guide.
Is there a discount for kids?
There are no discounts for children as although we love to have them - they often require extra care from our staff. But this is definitely a family-friendly adventure!
What is the maximum weight?
The maximum weight is 200 kg but this is the max size for the full-body harness - the zip lines and rigging are certified for many, many more times than this.
Is it dangerous?
You are led by experienced guides who show you the easy way to be connected to safety lines continuously.
Do you operate during monsoon season? If so, how does the weather affect the tour?
We operate year-round. Monsoon season is one of our favourite times of year, many people have the misconception that it rains continuous heavy downpours for months on end - the truth is quite different - here in Mae Kompong we experience short bursts of heavy rain but generally in the afternoon or evening when the course is closed. We like this time of year because the air is fresh and crisp and all the plant life is blooming...
If it should look like rain during a flight, we still go for it and it can add to the fun - it's not cold and should you like it - there is rainwear available.
Where is it?
In the rain forest of Mae Kompong,. About 55 minutes from town on smooth roads to an elevation of 1,300 metres. The site straddles an impressive river and falls. The Temperature is commonly 7 - 9 degrees celsius cooler than Chiang Mai.
What does it include?
We pick you up from your hotel with aircon VIP transport and take you to Thailand's third highest peak. There you will spend 3 hours, rigged securely, high up in the rainforest canopy, flying from treehouse to treehouse on ziplines. Afterwards, we provide a riverside Northern Thai set lunch and a spectacular waterfall trek.
After your trek, you are welcome to stay in the picturesque village of Mae Kompong where you can see traditional village craftsmen at work together with the famous Mae Kompong Waterfall. There is also a restaurant and coffee shop in the village where you can get refreshment for your ride back to your hotel.
What wildlife is in the forest?
Over 200 bird species and an impressive collection of monkeys, bears, wild boars, to name but a few.
What should I bring?
Mae Kompong is 1300 meters above sea level and can get chilly - we suggest you bring a light jacket and long pants if you have them and a pair of sports shoes or shoes that do not drop off. Nevertheless none of these items are crucial. A camera is good to bring for the action. Backpacks and sunglasses are an unecessary burden and there are storage facilities in the office when you arrive. It is also good to bring an open mind and a smile...
Why is it called flight of the gibbon?
Because it mimics the way gibbons negotiate thru the forest and because Treetop Adventures is a company committed to the preservation and conservation of these magnificent primates.
We contribute 10% of all profits towards Gibbon conservation and other conservation projects.
